Olive ridley

The rightful inheritors of earth: their inheritence..

Well, recently I came across an article in The Caravan, on the olive ridleys. The article was on the conservation efforts made by a group of people, on the beaches of Tamilnadu, where these turtles come together as group for the arribada(That is the females return to the shores they were hatched and lumber onshore,sometimes in the thousands,to nest.). What is worrying is that, the population of the olive Ridleys, that are considered to be one of the abundant turtle species, is decreasing substantially. The reasons are numerous. Changing habitats , stealing eggs, nesting females slaughtered for their skin and meat and the list goes on.

This however, as all of us know, is not a single case of proof, of how we, the so called crown of creation, have been tampering with the rights of the rightful inheritors of the earth. Well, it is certain  they can't voice their concerns, and we are not used to unspoken words. But the need of the hour is that, we being the rational creatures(at least for the sake of having enjoyed the credit for soo long), should take the initiative to decrypt the silent glances of the owners, of the lands we have trespassed. So the first step in this regard, would be knowing something more about the endangered species.

So, it goes without saying that the next few articles would be on few of the endangered species, and may be, on how we can do our bit, in redeeming the rights of the rightful inheritors of the earth.

Let the boundaries be drawn, and may harmony be the word of the world, of the man and the beast.
